Accelerated Technology's Nucleus PLUS Selected for NEC America's Award-Winning High Definition Mobile Handsets

MOBILE, Ala. - Dec. 15, 2004 - Accelerated Technology{reg}, a Mentor Graphics division (Nasdaq: MENT), today announced that its Nucleus{reg} PLUS real-time kernel has been used by NEC America, Inc. (NEC), a leading provider of innovative communications products, solutions and services, to develop the NEC 515, 525 and 535M High Definition Mobile+ (HDM) phones. NEC's award-winning handsets have established new levels of high definition mobility by bringing sophisticated multimedia capabilities, data-rich features and intense Java™ games to the U.S. consumer. The Nucleus PLUS kernel provides NEC the platform from which to build its feature-intensive mobile devices.

A recent report from Strategy Analytics* acknowledged that as mobile phones gain more and more features, users have higher expectations for their mobile handsets. The Nucleus PLUS kernel lays the groundwork for meeting consumers' expectations and helps vendors better respond to feature demands.

The Nucleus PLUS kernel is solid and flexible, and ideal for the rich capabilities that consumers require from their multimedia mobile phones, including digital cameras, gaming applications, Web browsing with Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) Internet connection and complicated task settings (such as various ring tone options, extended calendar and currency converter capabilities). Implemented in over 40 cellular designs in 2004, the Nucleus PLUS kernel is widely accepted for building applications such as mobile phones, consumer electronics, portable and handheld devices and more. Additionally, with Accelerated Technology's royalty-free business model, developers using the Nucleus PLUS kernel can help keep product costs down by not passing on the cost of royalty fees to the consumer.

"Mobile phone users want devices that combine product innovation with rich mobile content and advanced capabilities," said Noboru Sakata, general manager, NEC's Wireless Division. "Working with Accelerated Technology has allowed us to deliver phones that go beyond simple talk-only handsets and drive robust features and functionality into our users' hands."

"NEC's mobile phones illustrate how cell phone manufacturers are responding to the complexity demanded by mobile phone users. By using the Nucleus PLUS real-time kernel as a stable and flexible software platform, NEC can provide increased product functionality while meeting its time-to-market window," said Robert Day, director of marketing, Embedded Systems Division, Mentor Graphics.
