Accelerated Technology's Nucleus PLUS Chosen for Advanced Water Analyzing Instrument

MOBILE, Ala., - Jan. 26, 2005 - Accelerated Technology{reg}, a Mentor Graphics division (Nasdaq: MENT), today announced that its Nucleus{reg} PLUS real-time kernel has been used by Ionics Instruments to develop the Sievers{reg} 900 Series TOC Analyzers, a group of instruments that measure the total organic carbon (TOC) in water.

Total organic carbon is a measure of the carbon content of dissolved and undissolved organic matter present in a body of water, which can be impacted by many environmental and human-influenced factors. The family of Sievers 900 Series Analyzers was developed for TOC monitoring of water used in pharmaceutical, municipal, semiconductor and power applications.

"We chose Accelerated Technology's Nucleus PLUS real-time kernel because it was the best fit for the demanding technical requirements for our Sievers 900 Series Analyzers. The Nucleus PLUS kernel, which came with source code, was very easy to use and helped us meet our aggressive time-to-market schedules," said Greg Krisher, software engineering manager at Ionics Instruments.

In order to build the Sievers analyzers, developers at Ionics Instruments needed a reliable and robust real-time kernel from a proven embedded software company. Already supporting the MPC68332, the Nucleus PLUS kernel was scaled down to a minimal 14KB, including both code and data sizes, to meet the analyzer's development requirements.

The Nucleus PLUS kernel has a successful reputation as a foundation for embedded applications ranging from medical devices and industrial controls to consumer electronics and telecommunications devices. Other features of the Nucleus software package include the well-documented source code and no-royalty fees business model.

"The importance of the organic carbon content in water drove Ionics Instruments to build a measurement device to monitor the stability of this critical resource," said Robert Day, director of marketing for the Embedded Systems Division of Mentor Graphics. "We are pleased that our Nucleus software provides the robust foundation for the Sievers 900 Series Analyzers, which now help ensure the quality of water for many applications."

Availability and Pricing

The Nucleus embedded software is licensed with source code and without royalty fees. Available now, licenses for the Nucleus PLUS kernel start at U.S. $12,495. For more information, please contact Accelerated Technology at 800-468-6853.
