GiQuila Creates Low-Power Media Processor Chip Designs Using Mentor Graphics VStation Hardware Emulation System
WILSONVILLE, Ore., August 16, 2006 - Mentor Graphics Corporation (Nasdaq: MENT) today announced that GiQuila Corporation has adopted Mentor Graphic's VStation™ hardware verification system to verify its family of graphics and multimedia integrated circuits (ICs) for handheld devices. GiQuila, a private fabless semiconductor company based in San Jose, California, develops low-power graphics and multimedia processors for next-generation handheld devices.
Mentor's VStation hardware verification platform and the iSolve™ speed adapters were used to test and verify GiQuilas first generation multimedia processor. The company required thorough testing due to aggressive staffing resources and schedules. This integrated solution provides real-world testing of complex system designs prior to silicon, enabling the rapid development and verification of complex system on chips (SoCs), mandatory for today's multimedia, networking and consumer electronics design applications.
The GiQuila chip underwent testing using the iSolve and PCI Express speed adapters linked to the VStation emulation system. Using the Mentor hardware accelerated verification platform, GiQuila was able to bring up their complex chip design and run real-life conformance test suites and applications before tapeout. The current emulation solution not only increased the verification quality of the actual design, but it allowed the software team to get a head start on driver development. The VStation emulation platform allowed GiQuila to get first-time working silicon and to accelerate the bring-up schedule by several months.
"The VStation emulation system linked with the iSolve speed adapter provided the high performance, high capacity verification that we require for our low-power graphics and multimedia processors," said Mike Cai, CEO from GiQuila Corporation. "The emulation speed and debug flexibility were key advantages of the VStation solution, resulting in getting first time working silicon and a shortened bring-up cycle."
"We are pleased that GiQuila sees the value in using the VStation emulation system for high-performance verification accuracy," said Eric Selosse, Mentor Emulation Division vice president and general manager. "Our technology is perfectly suited for 3G wireless, multimedia graphics and hardware/software processor verification—fulfilling the requirements of leading fabless semiconductor companies like GiQuila."
