SD Memory Card Designs Now Have Off-the-Shelf Support From Accelerated Technology's Nucleus RTOS

MOBILE, Ala. - Dec. 8, 2004 - Accelerated Technology{reg}, a Mentor Graphics division (Nasdaq: MENT), today announced off-the-shelf support for Secure Digital (SD) memory cards. The Nucleus Secure Digital (SD) memory card driver, for use with the Nucleus{reg} FILE file management software, allows the secure exchange of digital content among a wide range of SD-enabled devices such as cellular phones, digital cameras, media players and personal digital assistants (PDA).

SD memory cards are rapidly gaining popularity in the memory card industry due in part to the very small footprint, which is a requirement for today's compact and light weight consumer electronics devices. SD memory cards not only store large volumes of data for the size, but can also perform high-speed data transfers. In addition, SD memory cards support copyright protection of digital content. As a result, the SD memory card has been widely accepted. More than 665 companies around the world make SD memory card-compatible products. An IDC report projects SD at a 50 percent memory card market share in 2005 and a rise to 56.6 percent market share in 2007.

Since the SD memory card is based on Multimedia Card (MMC) technology, the Nucleus SD memory card driver can be used for all Nucleus software based systems equipped with either SD or MMC flash memory cards. The Nucleus SD memory card driver enables developers to quickly take advantage of SD card features to make their devices and applications more capable of handling multimedia and digital content efficiently and securely. The Nucleus SD memory card driver provides a mechanism for an application to access an SD-enabled flash memory device through the Nucleus FILE software. The integration with the Nucleus FILE software also allows the Nucleus SD memory card driver to leverage the media and protocol support already present in the file management software.

"With the introduction of the Nucleus SD memory card driver, we are able to offer driver support to accelerate our customers' time-to-market for designs that need to access the growing market of SD-compatible consumer products," said Robert Day, director of marketing, Embedded Systems Division, Mentor Graphics. "This, combined with our source code, no-royalty business model, gives developers an ideal solution for building consumer electronics devices."

The Nucleus embedded software is licensed with source code and without royalty fees. Available now, licenses for the Nucleus SD Memory Card Driver start at U.S. $5,995 and licenses for the Nucleus FILE software begin at U.S. $5,995.
