LASAR V6.52 Simulation System

Digital Design Verification and Test Generation

Product Description
LASAR V6.52 offers comprehensive capabilities for ASIC, MCM, and board-level design verification and test generation. By installing the Falcon Framework option (available from Teradyne) with a standard LASAR simulation license, you can use LASAR capabilities interactively with the Design Viewpoint Editor (DVE) to debug digital test programs quickly and accurately. The full set of LASAR simulation capabilities are available, including dynamic min/max timing analysis, go/no-go testing, fault simulation, guided-probe diagnostics, and fault-dictionary diagnostics. Together, DVE and LASAR offer Mentor Graphics users powerful capabilities for test program debugging, plus a smooth transition from design to test.

DVE and LASAR share the same graphical user interface. You can extract LASAR netlists and compile LASAR models directly from a DVE schematic. You can add nets to LASAR's PERUSE waveform display by clicking on DVE schematic signals and nodes, and you can select signals and nodes for display on a DVE schematic from PERUSE. With DVE and PERUSE windows displayed side by side, you can cross-probe circuit nodes interactively using schematic and waveform display tools.

The V6.52 release includes more than 100 customer-requested enhancements and fixes. In addition to more than 100 enhancements and fixes, the V6.52 release offers a new modeling option for VITAL simulation. The LASAR-VT option supports min-max timing and fault simulation for ASIC and FPGA devices modeled in the VITAL language, plus backannotation of post-layout timing information expressed in Standard Delay Format (SDF), OVI 2.1. To take advantage of this capability, you need to obtain the VITAL cell library for the device series you are using from your ASIC/FPGA supplier. VITAL (VHDL Initiative Toward ASIC Libraries, IEEE 1076.4) is a subset of the VHDL language that has been adopted by most ASIC and FPGA vendors.

Benefits to End User of Product and Interface to MGC

  • Use the same graphical user interface for all design and test development tasks
  • Extract LASAR netlists directly from Design Viewpoint Editor (DVE) schematics
  • Generate high-fault-coverage test programs quickly, with minimum manual effort
  • Minimize tester integration time by using LASAR to model the target test environment
  • Make test programs available fast via certified links to a wide selection of commercial ATE and major DoD-approved testers, including CASS and IFTE

Company Background
Teradyne, Inc. is the leading supplier of automatic test equipment (ATE) worldwide. The company designs, manufactures, and supports systems for semiconductor test, circuit board test, and telecommunications test. The board test division, which specializes in simulation capabilities for electronic test automation (ETA), has worked cooperatively with Mentor Graphics to make Teradyne's industry-leading LASAR V6 simulation software available in the Falcon Framework environment. LASAR V6.52 was released in 1997.

Description of Integration
