Two weeks ago we announced the acquisition of the MontaVista Automotive Business Unit, including the Linux IVI (infotainment) platform called the MontaVista Automotive Technology Platform. When Mark Mitchell, GM of Open Source Embedded Solutions, was interviewed by EE Times he mentioned he expected to be have a combined release of the MontaVista Linux solution for IVI and the Mentor Embedded Infotainment Solution with a couple of months. With any acquisition of new technology one of the concerns of course is always the ability to combine technologies.
Both IVI solutions are based on OpenEmbedded and the Yocto Project so we’ve been making great progress in line with what Mark indicated in his interview. Some breaking news is we now have targets booting using combined code. This all bodes well for our customers who will benefit from the combined investments both companies have made in different middle ware layers and optimizations for specific hardware platforms.
