When shopping for a new car, truck or SUV, buyers are becoming more intrigued with the advancements of In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) systems and technologies. In fact, IVI capabilities are becoming major decision factors for most technology savvy consumers. And for this case, savvy consumers can mean anyone with a smartphone, teenagers (of course!) or perhaps a soccer mom with kids who have smart devices. From an end-user perspective, IVI systems must be easy to use and navigate, which means connect-&-play.
Of course, automotive IVI systems are more sophisticated than just connecting a smart device and managing multimedia. Managing the many complex connectivity and multimedia options can be a significant challenge for designers today. That’s why Mentor Embedded and Jungo Connectivity have announced a collaborative relationship to integrate the Mentor Automotive Technology Platform (ATP) with Jungo’s MediaCore middleware. The integrated package will help IVI designers get to market more quickly with feature rich systems. The Mentor ATP software offers a customizable Linux framework with a variety of BSPs that are GENIVI compliant. The Jungo MediaCore middleware offers advanced connectivity and multimedia services, which is also GENIVI compliant. Together, the Mentor ATP and Jungo MediaCore offer a powerful integrated platform that auto manufacturers and IVI designers can leverage to get their next generation IVI system to market faster. You can see the integrated IVI demo this week at IESF in Detroit on September 19th. The demo platform is based on a popular Freescale i.MX6 series reference board which is ARM® Cortex™-A9 architecture. The demo dashboard will also be on display at other ISEF events in Munich on October 24th and in Nagoya and Tokyo on September 25th and 27th.
