Sourcery CodeBench to extend support for embedded development on major MIPS CPUs

Last week, an important announcement signaled the continuation as well as extension of support for the MIPS architecture within the Sourcery CodeBench embedded development environment. Imagination Technologies, who acquired MIPS recently, announced expanding their partnership with Mentor Graphics for Sourcery CodeBench support for all major MIPS CPU families.

Imagination Technologies is well known for its cutting edge mobile graphics capabilities. With the addition of MIPS to their portfolio, the next generation of Imagination SoCs will undoubtedly raise the bar in a variety of markets. One of the perks to being a major technology partner is front row seat view (and participation) of this evolution!

Sourcery CodeBench has supported MIPS cores since its CodeSourcery days (under the Sourcery g++ toolchain brand). To extend this relationship and be picked as a key enabler of Imagination Technologies’ MIPS-based ecosystem is a matter of pride as well as a testament to Mentor Embedded’s continued technical innovation and commitment to open source.

Free trial versions of Sourcery CodeBench are available for MIPS ELF and for MIPS GNU/Linux.

Anil KhannaI am part of the marketing organization in the Embedded Software Division here at Mentor. Before this I spent 10 years marketing Mentor's hardware design products, specifically in the RTL and high-level synthesis domains. Moving from addressing the requirements of hardware designers to those of software designers has been quite the change. Throw in open-source and you have a heady mix - which keeps me on my toes! Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading a good book or the occasional round of golf (in the few hours of sunshine we get in Portland!). I hope you find my thoughts interesting and look forward to your comments. Visit Embedded Blog
