Mentor Graphics Collaborates with Texas Instruments to Use Nucleus OS Mobile, Enabling Development of Affordable Multimedia Handsets
WILSONVILLE, Ore., January 31, 2007 – Mentor Graphics Corporation (Nasdaq: MENT) today announced that it is extending its working agreement with Texas Instruments (TI) to provide developers an integrated Operating System solution for the mass market. Integrated within TI’s foundation software, Mentor's Nucleus® Operating System (OS) Mobile will provide a scalable and robust platform for developers working with TI’s OMAP-Vox™ platform and 2.5G chipsets, allowing them to quickly and easily integrate basic features and multimedia applications into handsets.
Increased demand for affordable multimedia-rich feature phones has raised the complexity of requirements. Multimedia functionality and advanced applications once used in high-end feature phones are quickly moving to the mid-range and value phone markets, increasing the need for solutions with low level OS support. The ubiquitous Nucleus OS Mobile offers a scalable platform that when combined with TI’s wireless solutions enables handset manufacturers to develop and deliver cost-effective, feature-rich mobile phones that address consumer demand.
“Mentor’s Nucleus OS is the most widely used operating system in the mobile phone market,” said Neil Henderson, general manager for the Embedded Systems Division of Mentor Graphics. “By combining TI’s industry-leading solutions with the expansive features of the Nucleus OS Mobile , mobile phone manufacturers can provide consumers with the features they desire, enabling customers to bring more targeted products to market.”
“Texas Instruments is pleased to work with Mentor Graphics to further our efforts to enable development of advanced mobile multimedia feature phones for the mass market,” said Sylvie Deschamps, TI’s Strategic Sourcing General Manager. “The flexibility of Mentor’s Nucleus OS Mobile gives handset manufacturers the ability to address the growing consumer demand for affordable multimedia devices with a broad range of handsets.”
The Nucleus OS Mobile provides all the necessary operating system requirements for embedded devices. It includes support for the most important differentiating features in today's cell phones and converged wireless devices, such as Internet and USB connectivity, graphical user interfaces, and secure communications.
