What is a Go URL?I was a little surprised by my systems friends recently. They seem more focused on providing a platform for developing SW, implying that HW is largely off-the-shelf. Has HW become that commoditized? I feel the effort ongoing in executable specifications (xUML) should provide a platform to build and refine both HW and SW models and allow better traceability of requirements.
At the same time chip complexity is staggering; anyone brining up a 32nm flow can relate. New process nodes are providing virtually unlimited functionality at the cost of vastly increased power consumption. I see a stronger trend to adopt TLM 2.0 to make the architectural trade-offs and optimize the roles of HW and SW more efficiently. The risk of over-committing functionality to HW is additional power and cost, while relying on SW could sacrifice performance.
Who’s going to drive the standards moving forward?
