Welcome!

French fries and a juicy hamburger, served with an Oregonian pinot-noir.  I guess there are many other iconic examples of the French/American cultural blend, but that’s what I’m in the mood for today.

This isn’t a culinary blog. This is the blog of a stubborn Frenchman, passionate about High-Level Synthesis, and who’s made the trip all the way to Oregon to help bring this technology to the mainstream.

High-Level Synthesis has crossed a tipping point. It is here to stay. I have spent the past five years working very closely with designers all across the “old” Europe who used HLS to crank out some of the most complex IPs I’ve seen. For them, there’s no turning back: HLS is the way forward.

Commercial HLS solutions come with various degrees of capability and various levels of maturity. Similarly, the need for such tools is not evenly shared amongst designers. But it’s only a question of time, the industry’s driving forces leave not doubt about that. And what has been accomplished in the past several years can only be a tremendous source of positive inspiration for the period ahead.

In this blog, I’ll post my comments, thoughts and experiences with HLS. And I look forward to see it turning into a fruitful dialog around C Synthesis.

About Thomas Bollaert

imageMy first encounter with HLS, back then behavioural synthesis, dates more than 15 years. Since then my ventures have led me to explore many aspects of the ESL design flow, including HW/SW co-design, architecture exploration and of course, C synthesis. Five years ago, I joined Mentor to develop the Catapult C product line in Europe. Recently, my little family followed me all the way from Paris to Oregon, where I now serve as product marketing manager for Mentor Graphics' high-level synthesis product line.
