  • Maximize Design Quality with Connected Engineering. - Digital continuity as a cornerstone for design quality
    Toggle Abstract

KEYNOTE SESSION As development cycles compress and the economic damage of product recalls mounts, attention is firmly focused on design quality. Today, industry leaders are embracing Systems Engineering to drive design quality. One key systems engineering principle is seamless and managed data integration: "digital continuity". Leading OEMs use a mix of best in class tools, but with an unswerving commitment to total communication.

This session describes the latest integration technologies delivered by Mentor's Capital tools for electrical systems design, covering subjects ranging from requirements linking to resource library synchronization. The session is co-presented with Daimler, who describe their global context and the value of digital continuity in such large organizations.

  • Managing Complex Design Change
    Toggle Abstract

TECHNICAL SESSION Constant design change is a key factor in electrical systems & wire harness engineering: unless executed properly change can result in large engineering and manufacturing costs, and potentially serious product liability exposure.

This session tracks a typical cross domain design change. We show how the change itself can be visualized and life-cycled, data flows controlled, verification undertaken, cost impacts assessed, and updated documentation created. Complex subjects such as out-of-sequence changes and robust communication between OEMs and suppliers are covered.

  • Every Engineer is a Quality Engineer: simulation on the desktop
    Toggle Abstract

TECHNICAL SESSION Correct by construction design processes can be dramatically enhanced using simulation techniques, especially early in the design process. But simulation is too often the preserve of specialist staff, who may work disconnected from day-to-day design updates.

This session highlights simulation and analysis tools that can be used by every electrical engineer, addressing topics ranging from functional verification to component sizing to failure modes & effects analysis. Furthermore, valuable results can be obtained with the simplest of models; and the models themselves can mature as the organization's use of simulation matures.

  • Every Engineer is a Cost Engineer: use of metrics for real-time decision support
    Toggle Abstract

TECHNICAL SESSION Modern platforms support hundreds of end-customer features across thousands of configurations, and suffer high rates of design change. This creates an overwhelming design challenge that is highly error prone and impossible to optimize for minimum cost. A change of paradigm is needed.

This session shows how synthesis technology can be applied to vehicle electrical system design, delivering detailed designs that are known to be correct. The process is rapid, and can be combined with dynamic metrics to guide engineers towards optimized solutions. The session is co-presented with Yazaki, who have used this technology to develop both high volume passenger car and low volume specialist vehicle electrical designs.

  • Enhancing Manufacturing Quality through Digital Continuity
    Toggle Abstract

TECHNICAL SESSION The concept of digital continuity continues into the harness manufacturing environment. The validation of manufacturing options and comparison of costs ensures smart business decisions and avoids manufacturing capacity challenges. Leading customers have realized this and leverage connections to and from business systems to deploy valid manufacturing processes. This session supports the deployment of Capital capabilities across a modern shop floor environment to bring new opportunities for rich digital documentation maintaining the quality and efficiency of manufacturing operations.
