Course Overview

Calibre is the industry standard for Deep Submicron Physical Verification. Realize its full impact on your design process by attending the Education Services "Calibre xRC" course for parasitic extraction. This course is designed to provide customers with the concepts and experience necessary to use, run, write rules, and optimize parasitic extraction results from Calibre xRC.  The lecture modules will guide you through the various concepts underlying state-of-the-art techniques and specific aspects of the Calibre toolset.

Hands-on lab exercises will reinforce lecture topics and provide you with extensive tool usage experience under the guidance of our industry expert instructors.

You will learn how to

  • Explain the typical Calibre xRC Flow.
  • Understand the 3-Step Flow and its components.
  • Understand the xRC input file requirements including pre-invocation tasks.
  • Understand the concept of excluding and limiting extraction to specific nets.
  • Understand types of netlists: flat, hierarchical, and gate-level extraction.
  • Understand the difference between xcell and hcell and when to use them.
  • Understand the value of reduction.
  • Understand the PEX GUI (graphical user interface).
  • Understand how to control the rule file through the PEX GUI.
  • Understand various vertical shielding concepts.
  • Understand types of resistance and their constituents.
  • Understand concepts related to In-Die Variation.

Hands-On Labs

Throughout this course, extensive hands-on lab exercises provide you with practical experience in using Calibre xRC under the guidance of our expert instructors. Hands-on lab topics include:

  • Flat, Gate-Level, and Hierarchical Extraction
  • Rule file editing
  • Explore output files and compare results
  • Correct PEX statements
  • Produce lumped-C, or distributed RC or RCC
  • Analyze conversion results
  • New PEX GUI Module and Lab
  • Interpret Calibre xRC reports, logs and extracted netlists

Audience

  • Layout Designers
  • Rule Writers
  • Programmers
  • CAD Support Team
  • Silicon wafer fabrication team who wish to write, run circuit simulations, set-up or otherwise interpret Calibre xRC.  This course should meet the needs of an audience of specialists who have knowledge of VLSI design.  It is intended for users of xCalibre, Arcadia , StarRC, as well as, users who are new to parasitic extraction.
