Description

In this class the student will learn how the Library Management System (LMS) is used to create, qualify, and manage parts for use in electronic designs. This hands-on course covers planning for library management, an overview of the Library Management System, LMS administration and configuration, part construction, and part management. It will help librarians quickly learn the potential of the LMS tools. Upon completion of this course, the new librarian will be able to create a library structure, maintain that structure, and evolve that structure as the needs of the organization change.
  

You will learn how to

• Understand what a library is and how to manage it
• Plan and develop a library structure
• Use the Library Manager tools
• Install and configure LMS
• Construct parts, test parts, release parts, maintain parts

Hands-On Labs

• How to use the LMS tools
• How to set up an LMS system for a local user, setting up a location map, and manipulating various configuration files
• How to set up and use Design Architect/Library Management System and To_Layout
• How to understand and edit library configuration files
• How to create parts and part catalogs
• How to test the newly created parts for use in the entire design process flow
• How to release parts by moving from a development library to a released library
• How to maintain parts by moving from a released library back to a development library for additional development, retest the modified part, and re-release

Audience

This course is intended for librarians who are part developers, library administrators, or designers.
  

Prerequisites

The student should have some familiarity with computer-aided engineering processes, specifically with schematic capture, circuit board layout, and circuit simulation. Users should be familiar with the Falcon Framework and Design Architect/Library Management System. The student should be familiar with PCB design and layout and the tools needed to perform these functions.
  

Key Topics

• The librarian will learn and understand how to manage a library in an industrial environment.
• The librarian will learn how to plan a new library environment and how to develop this environment in detail, from source libraries to development libraries to released libraries.
• The librarian will review the use of the library user tools such as DALMS and To_Layout.
• The librarian will be introduced to the Library Manager tool, will learn to install this tool, will learn to configure this tool for personal use and also how to configure the various library menus and structures that the design community will use.
• The librarian will learn, in detail, how to create parts, catalogs, and library menus.
• The librarian will how to develop a process for testing, releasing, and maintaining parts as well as how to perform this process in detail on a daily basis.
