Prices keep rising and rising. Virtually everything costs more today than even just a couple months ago. In fact, a quick glance at the inflation rate ( reveals that it doubled between Jan. 2011 and April 2011—and the upward trend continues.

Times are tough. Budgets are tight. Yet, mil/aero professionals still want and need to stay up-to-date on the latest industry trends, techniques, technologies, challenges and solutions, and, perhaps most important, rules and regulations. In today’s cost-conscious environment, it can be a challenge to get out and about among peers.

This geek knows well the value of industry events—such as for training, networking, problem-solving and advice, technological and procedural updates, and much more—yet, he also knows the value of a dollar.

When it comes to events, the old adage “you get what you pay for” doesn’t apply; free events can hold tremendous value. Case in point: Mentor Graphics’ Integrated Electrical Solutions Forum (IESF) is informative, well-attended, professional—and, did I mention, free? You simply pre-register.

In fact, Mentor annually organizes and hosts free IESF conferences throughout the world (including the US, France, Germany, Korea, China, Japan, and India). Each IESF is specifically tailored for design engineers, engineering managers, and executives in the Aerospace and Defense, and the Automotive industry.

Mentor’s IESF specific to military & aerospace professionals is next being held in Long Beach, Calif., on 13 Sept. 2011. It’s coming up fast. Based on past experience, I recommend pre-registering as soon as you can. Reserve your free seat before the conference is full—and be certain to look for me there! This geek can’t wait to attend the IESF.
