When conferences collide

Posted May 22, 2012, by John Day

They say you can’t do everything, and they’re right, whoever they are, but that doesn’t mean we have to like it. Two very promising conferences relevant to automotive electronics – telematics and sensors – are scheduled for the same days, June 6-7, about 300 miles apart. In Novi, Michigan, the 12th Telematics Detroit conference and exhibition, sponsored by Telematics Update, is expected to … Read More

Freescale, Infineon and STMicro launch high-end automotive chips

Posted Oct 13, 2011, by John Day

Freescale, Infineon, and STMicroelectronics made major chip announcements this week all focused on improving fuel economy and reducing emissions. Freescale said its multicore Qorivva 32-bit MPC5676R MCU, built on Power Architecture® technology, provides four times the performance, double the memory space and more functionality than the previous-generation, single-core MPC5566 MCU. With two parallel … Read More

Making more MEMS

Posted May 27, 2011, by John Day

STMicroelectronics said this week that it will increase its MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) production capacity to more than three million sensors a day by the end of 2011 based on “exploding” demand from industrial, healthcare, and automotive customers. Automotive applications for MEMS devices include airbags, navigation systems, electronic stability control, and tire pressure monitoring systems. … Read More
