Advances in Electrical System and Wire Harness Design – UK Seminar and Workshop



CAD systems are a great way to design mechanical products. You can even use them for creating electrical drawings. But when you’re designing electrical systems you want more than a drawing tool, you want something that keeps track of electrical connections, stops you making mistakes, generates design reports and BOMs automatically, and much more besides. About the Presenter

Presenter Image John Wilson

John is a product marketing manager at Mentor Graphics’ Integrated Electrical Systems Division (IESD). He worked for 11 years as an R&D manager with a leading European truck manufacturer, then with a knowledge-based software company for nine years in a variety of technical, sales, and marketing roles. In 1997 John founded a software company that developed tools for electrical design in the automotive and aerospace sectors. Mentor Graphics acquired his company and hired John in 2003.

Complimentary Seminar - Morning session 9:00am to 1:00pm

Saros, in conjunction with Mentor Graphics, is hosting a complimentary Electrical System and Harness Design seminar. John Wilson, an international specialist on electrical design and cable harness design, will discuss the new challenges faced by electrical designers that are making it harder to create high quality designs when using traditional electrical design tools.

The problems of traditional tools will be examined in detail before introducing the state-of-art capabilities of the new generation electrical design tools from Mentor Graphics. Typical customer profiles will be described, together with the quantifiable benefits driving ROI, and the benefits enjoyed by hundreds of companies (large and small) worldwide. Key capabilities of the tools will be demonstrated and there will be ample time for interaction, questions, and one-on-one discussion and demonstration. Complementary tea, coffee, and lunch will be provided.

Hands-on Evaluation Workshop - Afternoon session 2pm to 5pm

The evaluation workshop sessions will take you through a detailed look at using VeSys software to create and validate each stage of the electrical design process, from wiring schematic design and analysis, all the way through to the final harness representation ready for manufacturing. Delegates will have the opportunity to design an electrical system and harness from start to finish using VeSys. The evaluation workshop comprises:

  • Wiring Design and Analysis: Learn how to create wiring diagrams and validate them using the electrical simulation and analysis functions
  • Wiring Design Details: Learn how to restructure wiring diagrams into multiple page designs and generate design reports and service documents
  • Harness Engineering: Learn how to create a harness drawing and link it with wiring data from a variety of sources
  • Harness Detailing: Learn how to add additional detailing such as grommets and clips and generate a variety of manufacturing reports

Each delegate will be provided with an evaluation laptop for the duration of the workshop. Attendance at the evaluation workshop will cost £50 per delegate; delegates may optionally choose to share a laptop with a colleague at no extra cost.
