Redux Communications LTD
"We required an RTOS that would serve our development needs as well as the needs of our customers. In the end, we chose Nucleus for several reasons including the royalty-free business model, open source code, scalability and integrated software stacks. Nucleus was recommended by our peers as robust and reliable. Indeed, our expectations with Nucleus PLUS have been well met. It has proven to be very easy and intuitive to use."
"The Nucleus Prototyping environment allowed us to get started very quickly with development and testing, before our target processor was available. Now we're looking at integrating additional software packages that AT has to offer." --Avi Priev, senior software engineer, Redux Communications.
Network Traffic Processor Developed With Mentor Graphics' Nucleus RTOS
Headquartered in Modi'in, Israel, Redux Communications develops unique, single-chip network traffic processors. These processors enable manufacturers of broadband access and gateway devices to create products that facilitate the delivery of multiple, high-quality services all the way to the home and office.
Network Traffic Processing
Redux's flagship product, the AptaGate™ RX-100, is capable of performing Layer-2 through Layer-7 processing at wire speeds up to 100 Mbps, and is suitable in a diverse set of broadband access devices including DSL, cable, fixed wireless, satellite modems, SOHO routers, and next-generation broadband gateways.
The AptaGate offers a balanced solution of performance and flexibility, via its hardware engines and available ARM CPU respectively. Customers leverage this powerful network-processing platform to differentiate themselves by developing value-added solutions for the AptaGate, running embedded software on the ARM CPU and migrating critical, time-sensitive functions to the hardware engines as needed.
Redux Chooses Mentor Graphics'
Ease of customer application development on top of the AptaGate is key to Redux's success. Therefore, it was essential to identify a reliable, user-friendly Real-Time Operating System (RTOS).
Redux chose Nucleus PLUS due to its comprehensive support of the state-of-the-art ARM946 processor, ease of development, source code availability, highly reliable performance and small memory footprint. Nucleus PLUS affords developers flexibility as it is supported by an array of existing development tools and debuggers.
Perhaps most significantly, the AptaGate is targeted at customer premise equipment (CPE), with high volumes and significant cost sensitivity. Mentor Graphics is a natural partner for Redux given its cost-containing royalty-free business model. The AptaGate continues to be enhanced with additional software stacks, which further reduce time-to-market for customers. Mentor Graphics offers an expanding suite of software protocol stacks fully compatible with Nucleus PLUS, and Redux has already ported Nucleus NET for TCP/IP processing and Nucleus PPP.
