Vibtech Chooses Nucleus RTOS for Unite, a Cable-free Seismic Acquisition System

Vibtech was founded in 1996 by John Flavell Smith and Bill Park, both with nearly thirty years of experience in the seismic industry, working for major contractors such as Schlumberger, CGG and Digicon. They saw the need to make the exploration for hydrocarbons and minerals onshore and in the surf zone more straightforward. They believed that a broadband cellular radio network would be able to handle the massive data volumes acquired during a seismic survey and Vibtech was formed to develop this concept.

Unite

Unite is the world’s lightest, most flexible and reliable seismic acquisition system, offering unlimited channel capacity without the straightjacket of digital cables and connectors or VHF radio transmission. The 3-in-1, cable-free seismic acquisition system allows users to select between real-time telemetry of the entire dataset, local storage of the data with transmission of reduced bit QC data for a visual check of the shot records and true nodal acquisition, with data being stored locally in the field units.

Vibtech’s Selection of the Nucleus RTOS for Unite

Developers at Vibtech used the Nucleus RTOS to develop a previous product, the it System. Because of their success with the first project, they decided to use the Nucleus RTOS again for the Unite data acquisition system.

The Nucleus RTOS is robust, reliable and provided with a royalty-free licensing model and well-documented source code. Highly optimized and extremely scalable, the Nucleus RTOS is perfectly suited for the complex requirements of embedded applications in the industrial controls market.

Besides the Nucleus PLUS RTOS, the basis for the Nucleus family of products, Vibtech developers used the Nucleus NET TCP/IP protocol networking stack and the Nucleus Ethernet driver to build the Unite system.
