DO-254 compliance has always been a moving target. Since its finalization in 2000 and then complete re-scoping at its invocation in 2005, to the latest changes (and inconsistencies) with the FAA and EASA supplemental policy documents, keeping up with what it means to “comply” with DO-254 has been a challenge. This session provides an overview of the evolution of DO-254, and then discusses some of the interesting and pertinent topics of latest concern. These include the DO-254 working its way into the UAS market, expansion of DO-254 to the PCB level, issues and solutions for using intellectual property, the potential creeping of DO-330 (DO-187C tool qualification) into the DO-254 domain, COTS compliance, SEE concerns and more.
