Mentor Graphics Announces Synthesis Support for Xilinx Spartan-DSP Series
WILSONVILLE, Ore., April 3, 2007 – Mentor Graphics Corporation (NASDAQ: MENT) today announced that its suite of advanced synthesis products supports the newly introduced Spartan™-DSP series from Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX). Synthesis support is available now in Precision® Synthesis (release 2006a2) with support in the LeonardoSpectrum™ tool suite to follow.
The newest addition to the Xilinx XtremeDSP™ portfolio targets low-cost applications in wireless, video, and consumer applications. “The Spartan-DSP series lowers the price point for FPGA-based DSP applications, enabling a wider range of applications,” said Simon Bloch, general manager, Mentor Graphics Design Creation and Synthesis Division. “The advanced resource allocation capabilities found within Precision Synthesis will help designers maximize the potential of this new platform.”
The companies began work last year on Spartan-DSP series support within the Mentor Graphics family of synthesis tools. “Mentor Graphics has a comprehensive suite of DSP design tools, from concept to implementation,” said Steve Lass, senior director of Software Product Marketing at Xilinx. “Precision Synthesis provides Spartan-DSP series users with the advanced tools they need to complete high-performance DSP designs.”
Precision Synthesis forms the centerpiece of Mentor Graphics’ FPGA flow — the industry's most comprehensive vendor-independent solution for FPGA design. With advanced support for ASIC prototyping (support for DesignWare® libraries, SDC constraints, gated-clock handling, etc.) plus advanced implementation and optimization techniques such as automatic mapping and inferencing of dedicated DSP and RAM blocks, Precision Synthesis is uniquely suited to handle today’s high-end FPGAs. In addition, Precision Synthesis features an award-winning design analysis capability, allowing designers to cross-probe between multiple views as well as perform interactive static timing for rapid "what-if" analyses. Precision Synthesis reduces design iterations, and enables faster, more predictable completion of designs, while delivering high quality of results.
As a part of the Mentor Graphics synthesis product line, LeonardoSpectrum offers customers a well-proven, mature synthesis solution for both FPGAs and ASICs.
