XILINX TEAMS WITH THE MATHWORKS, MENTOR GRAPHICS AND SYNPLICITY TO DELIVER SECOND GENERATION XTREME DSP SOFTWARE EVALUATION KIT San Jose, Calif., March 13, 2002 - Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX), in collaboration with The MathWorks, Mentor Graphics and Synplicity, today announced the availability of its second generation XtremeDSP? development kit for enabling TeraMAC/s applications using Xilinx? Virtex? -II and Spartan? -II FPGAs. Following on the success of the first generation kit which was shipped to over 12,500 system architects, DSP, FPGA and ASIC designers, the new kit includes evaluation versions of the software tools required to complete DSP designs on Xilinx FPGAs. Additionally, the kit enables designers to utilize FPGAs for TeraMAC/s DSP application using familiar tools to significantly shorten the development of these applications. Xilinx Virtex-II FPGAs have become the platform of choice for high-performance DSP applications by simplifying the "heavy-lifting" MAC intensive portions of many emerging applications such as 3G infrastructure, Software Defined Radio (SDR), smart antennas and digital video/imaging. The XtremeDSP software evaluation kit can be ordered free of charge at www.xilinx.com/dsp/eval_software.htm. "The key to giving DSP designers access to the industry's most advanced FPGA technology has been through simplifying the software development flow," said Ken Karnofsky, marketing director of The MathWorks. "The strength of this tool chain is unprecedented and we will continue to strengthen our relationship with Xilinx in the tools arena." The new DSP software evaluation kit comprises evaluation CDs for a number of leading-edge development tools. The kit includes industry renowned R12.1 DSP system modeling tools from The MathWorks such as MATLAB? and Simulink? allowing system architects and DSP designers to model communications and DSP systems using a wide selection of blocksets. Additionally, the kit also includes the second generation Xilinx System Generator for DSP v2.1 for accurately translating DSP system models created in Simulink into synthesizable VHDL and Xilinx ISE implementation software, helping to bridge the gap between the traditional DSP and FPGA worlds. Also included are evaluation versions of the Mentor Graphics FPGA Advantage? and the Synplicity Synplify Pro? synthesis software, which enable designers to perform synthesis on VHDL produced by System Generator targeting DSP applications in an FPGA. Using the simulation tool within the FPGA Advantage suite, users can also verify timing through performing pre- and post-routing simulations. "XtremeDSP continues to push the technology boundaries of FPGAs, providing designers in networking and communication markets with the ability to quickly develop complex devices," said Valerie Rachko, director of marketing for Mentor Graphics' FPGA Advantage design solution. "The Mentor Graphics? FPGA Advantage design flow and Xilinx XtremeDSP combine accurate timing analysis with high performance synthesis results, providing a powerful and highly integrated solution for today's DSP designers." "Our Synplify synthesis software, when combined with the XtremeDSP development kit, offers designers a comprehensive solution for implementing high-performance DSP in Xilinx FPGAs," said Jeff Garrison, director of marketing for FPGA products at Synplicity. "The Synplify Pro software's ability to extract and perform true timing-driven synthesis on math functions such as multipliers and adders provides DSP designers with a highly productive solution that enhances overall performance and works well within the Xilinx XtremeDSP flow."
