Mentor Graphics AMS Technology Design Kit Based on SMIC Technology

SMIC

SMIC-Mentor TDK is a comprehensive and proven set of building blocks that enable semiconductor companies and electronic systems manufacturers to jump-start their design cycles using SMIC's foundry process and Mentor's analog/mixed-signal (AMS) IC flow together. The design kit cuts time-to-market and ensures manufacturing success for analog, RF and mixed-signal ICs and systems on chip (SoCs).

Mentor also teamed up with SMIC to offer an analog/mixed-signal IC reference flow based on SMIC-Mentor TDK (Technology Design Kit) that contains the design building blocks used by the tightly-integrated set of Mentor tools to provide a complete, end-to-end solution for design capture (schematic or netlist), functional verification, physical layout (floorplanning, placement and routing), physical verification (DRC and LVS), parasitic extraction and post-layout verification (parasitic back-annotation to the schematic, and simulation)

Key benefits of the SMIC-Mentor TDK

  • Ensures manufacturing success

  • Shortens the setup time for complete schematic and layout design environments

  • Correct-by-construction device generators reduce costly rework cycles due to DRC/LVS errors

  • Eliminates expensive mistakes due to inaccurate simulation models

  • Available at no cost to customers

SMIC-Mentor Graphics 0.18mm and 0.13mm TDK

Mentor Graphics and SMIC Semiconductor have teamed to develop TDKs for popular SMIC manufacturing processes at multiple technology nodes, starting first with 0.18 µm.

SMIC 0.18 process features

  • Single poly, six-metal-layer (Aluminum) process
  • Core device options: generic (G) or low leakage (LL)
  • I/O device options: 2.5V or 3.3V
  • Mixed-signal options: deep N-well, multiple-Vt MOSFET, high-resistance poly, MiM capacitor, thick metal inductor

SMIC's 0.18 process is optimized for speed, power, density and cost. The process has been validated over a broad range of consumer, communications and computing applications. It also offers customers flexible solutions with modules for embedded memory, mixed-signal or RF CMOS. For SoC applications, this technology performs at over 400 MHz and memory speeds of over 500MHz. Using a single poly, six-metal-layer process, this technology features multiple voltages of 1.8V, 2.5V and 3.3V, and a high gate density of over 100,000 gates per mm2.

This Mentor SMIC 0.18 TDK includes all the foundry-specific data files and models for use with the SMIC-Mentor Graphics analog/mixed-signal IC flow tools listed above.

SMIC 0.13 process features

  • Single poly, eight-metal-layer (1P8M), Cu with FSG process
  • I/O device options: 2.5V or 3.3V
  • Mixed-signal options: deep N-well, multiple-Vt MOSFET, high-resistance poly, MiM capacitor, thick metal inductor

What will I receive?

The customer will receive a self-extracting tar file containing:

  • Open source code for all components of the design kit, which gives customers the flexibility to further extend or customize the kit
  • Design Architect-IC symbols with predefined properties for Eldo simulation and SDL and LVS
  • Userware to customize the library palettes listing the available components
  • Userware, Process Definition file (PDF), layout and device generators as required for each component
  • Documentation:
    • Release_notes - Unique requirements for the specific design kit and revision history. This file documents which specific Eldo models and DRC/LVS files were used to validate the design kit.
    • Installation_Guide - Brief description of design kit contents and installation procedure
    • Library_Specification.pdf - List of components included in the design kit describing the menu name and associated model names and properties
Note: The symbols created were based on the defined subcircuits and models for Eldo. The design kits are for mixed-signal/analog/RF design and typically contain MOS devices, resistors, capacitors, npn's, diodes, varactors (RF) and inductors (RF). The Mentor Graphics Technology Design Kits do not contain any digital components such as AND gates.

Who do I call if there are any issues?

Mentor Graphics customer support is available to answer technical tool related calls. Customer support will determine where the issue needs to go for resolution. If the issue is related to Mentor Graphics tools or design kits, the Mentor Graphics development team will resolve the issue. If the issue is related to a foundry-supplied Eldo model, Calibre DRC or LVS deck, Mentor Graphics will work with the foundry to make sure the issue is resolved.
