This design engineer was interested in investigating the performance of a new series of propellers. Investigating drag through water was easy with FloEFD. The engineer used special FloEFD functionality to help him reach his design goals.
Since FloEFD supports laminar, transitional and turbulent flow regimes, all automatically and within the same model, the engineer didn’t need to worry about identifying when and where the flow characteristics changed within his model – FloEFD automatically did it for him.
Also, finding an optimum mesh in this instance could have been a very tedious task indeed. That’s why Mentor Graphics has developed a robust automatic mesher that can actually mesh real-world geometry – not just academic or theoretical ones. FloEFD features automatic meshing for fluid and solid regions including automatic mesh refinement/unrefinement due to geometrical and/or physical (solution adaptive) requirements. And finally since FloEFD features grid-independent near wall modeling by using Partial Cells technology, FloEFD was able to correctly simulate the boundary layer phenomena for fluid flow effects without needing a specifically designed mesh or a lot of time to solve this design problem.
