FloEFD

FloEFD™ is “Concurrent CFD”: analyze as you design and speed up your workflow.

FloEFD is the ONLY computational fluid dynamics analysis tool that is truly embedded into major MCAD systems. These include Pro/ENGINEER, CATIA, Siemens NX and SolidWorks; and tight integration with Inventor and SolidEdge. FloEFD is a full-featured 3D fluid flow, heat transfer analysis package that is both fast to learn and to use because it doesn’t come with the numerical complexity and meshing overheads of traditional high-end CFD.

Features and Benefits

Easy-to-use CAD embedded Concurrent CFD

For analysis to become an integral part of the design process, it must be easy to use and able to adapt readily to your design process. Developed for engineers, FloEFD turns CFD analysis into a plug-in for CAD. Because of its intuitive interface, FloEFD is extremely easy to use – in fact, most design engineers report that they can use FloEFD with less than 8 hours of training.

Better Products, Faster

Award winning FloEFD is ‘Concurrent CFD’, fully embedded CFD analysis software that enables Design Engineers to create better products, faster.
Industries around the world such as aerospace, automotive, medical devices, industrial machinery, pumps/ valves etc, use 'concurrent' FloEFD to:

  • Improve product performance, functionality and reliability
  • Reduce physical prototyping and production costs
  • Minimize risk of making design mistakes
  • Save both time and money by reducing design times and speeding up workflow

Quickly generate reports

You can create and distribute your animated results as well as quickly generate reports in Microsoft ® Excel and Word, including all your favorite plots.

Analysis wizard

FloEFD’s powerful wizard guides you through the problem set-up so you don’t forget any important steps before the solution stepsolving the problem.

Effortless what-if testing

Perhaps the most powerful feature of FloEFD is the ease with which you can conduct “what-if” analysis. Easily modify your models and immediately analyze them: FloEFD helps you create multiple variations of your designs by modifying your solid model without needing to reapply loads, boundary conditions, etc. Simply compare your many design options and choose the best one for your final design!

In addition, FloEFD includes a Parametric Study tool which significantly increases the speed of parametric analyses such as varying boundary conditions or mesh settings. And using the Compare Tool, which makes identifying the best design variant faster, you can compare plots and numerical data across multiple projects to select the best possible option.

Robust visualization

Once you have analyzed your problem, viewing the results is a matter of point-and-click: simply choose the appropriate options from a menu and the system will quickly generate your desired plots. Use the unique Dynamic Streamlines consisting of “Line Integral Convolution” and “Evenly Spaced Lines” options dynamically to highlight flow structures that are difficult to see using standard visualization techniques.

Multi-physics analysis

Multi-physics simulation is now required for many products. FloEFD’s generic interface to NASTRAN structural analysis modules allows you to export pressure and temperature data from FloEFD for structural or thermal simulation. Thus analyses for stress, vibration, structural failure and heat transfer can help you develop safer and more reliable designs within shorter time-to-market timelines.

1D-3D CFD simulation

Mentor Graphics offers a unique combination of 1D and 3D CFD software designed to natively work together providing an opportunity to increase digital prototyping information earlier in the product development process. With this unique combination, you can characterize the more complex components of a system in 3D (FloEFD) and easily insert those components into the 1D system-level model (Flowmaster) for simulation. Thus providing higher accuracy for the components while minimizing the computational resources and execution times at the system level.

CFD natively embedded in your solution

FloEFD for Creo CFD embedded in Creo Parametric and Wildfire

FloEFD for CATIA V5: CFD embedded in CATIA V5

FloEFD for NX. CFD embedded in Siemens NX

Unlike other 3rd party CFD programs, FloEFD for Creo, FloEFD for CATIA V5 and FloEFD for NX work directly with native Creo Parametric, native CATIA V5 and native Siemens NX geometry, respectively – with no translation or copies – in order to keep pace with on-going design changes. FloEFD for Creo, FloEFD for CATIA V5 and FloEFD for NX have the same “look and feel” so you can focus on solving your problem instead of learning a new environment.

These versions directly use Creo Parametric and Wildfire, CATIA V5 and Siemens NX geometry and solid model information such as features and parameters to help you simulate your designs in real-world conditions. Direct use of native geometry is an extremely powerful feature since it provides you with functionality that is not easily offered by other CFD programs.

Since you’re using the same exact geometry for CAD and analysis, you maintain one set of data across your product design process, and your analysis is always in tune with your design.

Works with your MCAD software

FloEFD for Inventor, SolidEdge and SolidWorks

The analysis process with FloEFD is fast, intuitive and effortless.

FloEFD fits within your product development process – from concept to customer support. Plus, its interface will be familiar as it offers many of the same time-saving and ease-of-use functionality offered by leading mechanical computer-aided design systems.

Combined with your MCAD software, FloEFD provides you with a powerful simulation tool and reduces the need for building multiple costly physical prototypes.
