Technical Overview
A major challenge in the electronic engineering is the management, access and distribution of intellectual property, not limited to library and component information, but also including design reuse elements or design data. DMS provides new and innovative mechanisms to eliminate a wide range of issues associated with today’s library management solutions, such as broken references, missing parts when transferring data.
The scalable architecture allows to select desired functionality and start with a lean and out-of-the box solution. Advanced capabilities let the system grow with the needs up to the enterprise engineering management solution.
DMS is an information-centric database. All data in the design process are linked with relationships. This allows highest data consistency, minimized data maintenance effort as well as immediate identification of all dependencies, from a BOM down to the geometries and padstacks and vice versa.
DMS provides all important technical and business information at any time to the engineers. This includes:
- Part lifecycle
- Reliability
- Part documentation
- Availability
- Cost information
- Associated documentation
- Log files
- Complete history tracking
It helps to significantly reduce design cycles by reducing time consuming tasks, such as part research as well as the number of iterations through improper component selection, late part or technology changes.
As an engineering solution DMS plugs into enterprise systems, complements the PDM/PLM system with standardized and best-in-class solutions that are tailored for the complexity of the electronic design processes. It ensures that data is entered only once in the company and shared across the systems. This makes DMS a substantial part of the library and design management for every customer, who wants to be successful in a highly competitive and global market for electronic applications.
Production Library
All library data are stored in a central master repository. Rules and filter mechanisms allow to extract the libraries from this repository and limit access based on criteria, such as:
- Product family
- Manufacturing technology
- Drawing standards
- Design tool flows
The benefits of the central management are:
- Minimized library creation and administration cost through single point of storage, editing and management across the entire company
- Library consistency though homogeneous distribution process
- Reduced redesign effort by avoiding improper part or technology selection
Scalable Solution
As an ECAD engineering infrastructure backbone, DMS is scalable to meets the functional needs of smaller and medium size customers.
The basic server and user applications can serve a large area of needs in a lean environment. With growing complexity, servers, configuration and integration capabilities DMS can be upgraded to perfectly integrate with a more complex infrastructure, such as a global environment.
