The Personal Computer Interface (PCI, PCI-X, and PCI-Express) represents the most prolific I/O standard for the transfer of data between a CPU and its peripherals (www.pcisig.com). Common applications include Video, SCSI, Fibre Channel, and Ethernet adaptors, as well as Modems and other bridge applications. The first two generations of PCI were wide parallel interfaces with speeds ranging from 66 to 533 MHz.
PCI Express, the newest generation of PCI, has gone serial, offering a higher level of performance than its predecessors. Along with the performance boost come new and challenging design requirements.
What You Will Learn
- A basic understanding of PCI Express technology
- We will show you how HyperLynx GHz can resolve the challenges of designing a PCI Express interface.
- Demonstrate you how the new HyperLynx technology kit allows you to analyze loss
- for comparison with your PCI-Express loss budget
- by looking at random jitter, dielectric loss, skin effect, and connector and via loss, along with their impact on eye quality and the potential for inter-symbol interference.
-
Driver pre-emphasis and receiver equalization will also be discussed and simulated using LineSim GHz.
