Overview
A system today consists of components from different engineering disciplines containing electronics, mechanics and software. These components are often developed in different departments which have their own isolated tool environments. Once developed these components need to be consolidated and assembled at one point in the development process. This is the point where the disconnected development processes, tool and environments lead to problems. Today’s cross-discipline systems require a highly coordinated development flow and design teams and tool environments must now interact in a multi-discipline, concurrent engineering design process to model, simulate, and analyze their complete system. This is especially important in safety critical system areas, e.g. Medical where ensured quality and reliability in the resulting product is a must.
