Course Details

In this course, Mentor PCB design experts present the workflow and methods of laying out a printed circuit board using Mentor Graphics Expedition PCB. You will learn key steps in PCB design flow such as:

  • Defining board geometry
  • Placing parts, swapping pins & gates and back annotation
  • Verifying the layout with online and batch design rule checking
  • Routing using both manual/interactive and automatic tools
  • Generating plane, Gerber and drill data

What you'll learn

Lecture/demonstration discussions will be followed by hands-on lab experiences to reinforce knowledge gained from the lecture material. This course steps you through the following lectures and exercises:

  • Creating padstacks, cell (footprint) and part (PDB) definitions, and building components
  • Creating layout templates, which can be used for multiple projects and significantly save time for new design projects
  • Defining board geometry
  • Placing parts and swapping pins
  • Verifying the layout with online and batch design rule checking (DRC)
  • Using Constraint Editor System (CES) to define layout and routing constraints
  • Employing different routing techniques
  • Adding test points
  • Generating plane data
  • Creating silkscreens
  • Generating drill data
  • Generating Gerber data
  • Placing dimensions and documenting the layout
