Course Overview

Semiconductor technology today has resulted in ICs that switch in fractions of a nanosecond and PCBs that clock as low Megahertz are subject to the same high frequency phenomena due to switching edges. This course provides the individual with understanding of how to use IS in floorplanning and routing PCB designs. Design rules and design processes that insure the PCB will function properly at the prototype stage are taught. Emphasis is placed upon cost-competitive design without sacrificing the high-speed integrity.

You will learn how to

  • Use IS Floorplanner to place components with timing considerations
  • Use Floorplanner hierarchy to manage large placements of components
  • Use IS to create a breakouts or footprints for SMD devices and allow access to PCB inner layers
  • Route differential pairs
  • Route using timing rules
  • Understand tool fundamentals and the user interface

Hands-On Labs

Throughout this course, extensive hands-on lab exercises provide you with practical tool usage experience under the guidance of our expert instructors. Hands-on lab topics include:

  • Finding and locating design information
  • Create and populate floorplanning by assigning components into hierarchical groups and manipulating them with move, copy, flip, and rotate commands
  • Improve placement by swapping component cells and pins to reduce guide wire congestion
  • Identify changes in timing due to floorplanning changes
  • Interactively add breakouts to a design
  • Interactively routing and re-routing nets
  • Importing and exporting track patterns
  • Adding net delay using meanders and determining results to changing track width
  • Automatically generate breakouts patterns and tracks using the autorouter
  • Change meander rules to meet delay rules
  • Correcting crosstalk using the Optimizer

Audience

  • Digital design engineers
  • PCB layout personnel
  • Design managers
  • Test engineers
  • EMI/EMC engineers
  • IC digital logic designers
  • Technicians
  • Project Managers of today's high-speed designs

Prerequisites
