Course Overview

You will acquire the skills needed to maximize your usage of Design Capture software, and realize its full potential to impact your design process. This course will teach you to effectively use Design Capture software and will empower you to successfully create schematic designs that are specifically geared toward Expedition PCB Layout. Discussion sessions will guide you through various concepts of schematic design techniques and specific aspects of the Design Capture tool set.

Hands-on lab exercises will reinforce discussion topics and provide you with extensive tool usage experience under the guidance of our industry expert instructors.

You will learn how to

  • Use Design Capture proficiently in the creation of flat and hierarchical schematic designs
  • Distinguish between the two methods of inserting symbols into a schematic
  • Effectively build intelligence into your design using text properties
  • Place wires and buses in the design to create net connections
  • Use the Verify command to help you avoid common design mistakes
  • Create and maintain the integrated Common Database
  • Setup, run, and interpret results of the Packager utility
  • Annotate and Document the schematic design using Design Capture Utilities

Throughout this course, extensive hands-on lab exercises provide you with practical experience using Design Capture software. Hands-on lab topics include:

  • Creating a project and setting up a project file
  • Populating the schematic file with Symbols and "Parts"
  • Building net connections using wires and buses
  • Adding appropriate text properties using the Place Text and Edit Properties commands
  • Verifying and troubleshooting your schematic files
  • Creating the integrated Common Database and running the Packager utility
  • Annotating the schematic and documenting the design

Prerequisites

  • Experience in schematic design
  • Understanding of PCB layout terms and practices
  • Familiarity with Windows 2000, Windows NT or Windows 98
