Course Overview

With FPGAs and mixed analog/digital ASICs, verifying application-specific boards prior to committing to layout is increasingly important. Analog Designer, integrated with Design Capture, is the complete environment for preparation of stimuli, simulation, basic and complex analysis of circuits.

The  Analog Designer course covers the most important aspects of setting up the Analog Designer tool. It covers setting pointers to models libraries as well as how to develop new libraries and manipulate models. The functionality of the Analog Waveform Displayer (AWD) is described in detail, as well as the Waveform Calculator. All the domain analysis functionality is thoroughly explored, as well as statistical analysis.

You will learn how to

  • Use and set up project files and understand how they control the environment
  • Take advantage of Design Capture to Analog Designer integration through the Inter-Tool Communication (ITC) layer
  • Set up Analog libraries
  • Simulate and view waveforms
  • Use the Waveform Calculator
  • Run different analysis strategies

Hands-On Labs

Throughout this course, extensive hands-on lab exercises provide you with practical experience using the Design Capture and Analog Designer software. Hands-on lab topics include:

  • DC Domain Analysis
  • Frequency Domain Analysis
  • Time Domain Analysis
  • Parametric Sweeping
  • Monte Carlo Analysis
  • Library Configuration and Management
  • Simulation Options and Environment Setup
  • Viewing Results with Analog Waveform Displayer
  • Customizing the VBA Environment

Audience

Engineering team members actively involved in an analog design.

Prerequisites

  • Design Capture for PCB Layout or adequate Design Capture or Design View experience.
  • Familiarity with supported workstation environments using the Windows NT, 98, or 2000 operating systems.
