For car makers and their suppliers, the ISO 26262 standard provides the guidelines for establishing functional safety and reliability in electrical and electronic systems. The first update to 26262 includes many changes and a significant addition that affects semiconductor development, and therefore, the software that is used to design and test semiconductors. This paper discusses ISO 26262:2018, including what's new and what's still missing.
